Mastercard อัปเกรด Mastercard In Control เพิ่ม Issuer Enforced Controls และ Clearing Controls พร้อม Commercial Connect API โดย Citi เตรียมนำไปใช้ทั่วโลก
Commercial and New Payment Flows
Mastercard Expands Virtual Card Controls Through Clearing and Adds Single-API Access to Embedded Payments
Mastercard is upgrading Mastercard In Control with new capabilities that extend Virtual Card controls from card creation through clearing, while expanding Commercial Connect API as a single connection point for Virtual Card creation and payment initiation. Citi will be the first issuer expected to deploy the new capabilities globally.
The update targets the growing integration of Virtual Cards into procurement, ERP, accounts payable and other business platforms. According to data cited by Mastercard, 69% of companies face challenges integrating payment systems with their existing business infrastructure.
Commercial Connect API is positioned as a Single API Front Door, allowing issuers, platforms and enterprises to access Virtual Card capabilities through one integration. It can support Virtual Card creation and payment initiation within a single workflow, reducing integration complexity and helping programmes scale across markets.
For security and control, Mastercard is introducing Issuer Enforced Controls, allowing issuers to set conditions when a Virtual Card Number is created, including spending limits, maximum transaction values and card validity periods.
Clearing Controls extend those policies beyond authorisation into the clearing stage. This enables enterprises and platforms to identify or reject transactions that do not meet defined conditions, apply more granular controls and centrally manage payment timing as programmes expand.
Mastercard said Virtual Card fraud rates are less than one-fifth those of traditional cards and are even lower when Virtual Cards are issued through Mastercard In Control. The platform also works with Mastercard’s tokenisation, fraud detection and enterprise cybersecurity technologies.
Mastercard’s Virtual Card Number ecosystem currently supports transactions across 43 countries and territories, including 14 markets in Asia Pacific, and supports 174 currencies.
“Virtual Cards give finance and procurement teams greater flexibility in how they pay without adding risk or complexity to supplier relationships,” said Anushka Lads, Vice President of Commercial and New Payment Flows for Asia Pacific at Mastercard.
In Asia Pacific, Mastercard has previously worked with Coupa and HSBC on an embedded finance Virtual Card transaction that enabled Pact Group to pay suppliers directly within its procurement platform. Virtual Card adoption is also expanding across travel, healthcare, e-commerce and expense-management platforms.
Citi has already begun using both Issuer Enforced Controls and Clearing Controls and is expected to become the first issuer to roll out the new VCN capabilities globally within 2026.
