KMITL and SCGC Adapt Floating Solar Pontoons into Flood Relief Rafts in Lat Krabang
King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) and SCG Chemicals (SCGC) have adapted pontoons used in floating solar installations into flood relief rafts to reach affected communities along the Prawet Buri Rom Canal in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district.
The operation includes Hua Takhe and Wat Phonlamani communities, where teams delivered drinking water, food, medicines and essential supplies.
SCGC said its modular pontoons support loads of up to 150 kilograms per square metre and withstand wind and waves. Their design allows quick assembly, reconfiguration and transport, supporting waterborne access to flooded neighbourhoods.
Associate Professor Dr. คมสัน มาลีสี, President of KMITL, and พรชัย แสงรุ่งศรี, Manager of SCGC’s i2P (Ideas to Products) Center, joined executives, staff and volunteers in the relief operation.
Residents requiring assistance can call KMITL’s emergency SOS number at 02-329-8008, contact LINE OA @kmitldf, or submit a request through sos.kmitl.ac.th. Requests should specify the assistance needed, such as emergency accommodation.
Donations can be delivered to the Chao Phraya Surawong Waiyawat (Won Bunnag) Auditorium at KMITL.
Residents can also check real-time water levels through KMITL’s water-level dashboard and view local traffic and flooding conditions through CCTV feeds on the YooNee App.
Further updates are available through KMITL’s official Facebook page and website. General enquiries can be directed to 02-329-8000.
