Grab Partners with OpenAI to Deliver ChatGPT Training for Over 3,000 Drivers and Merchants in Thailand
Grab has formed a partnership with OpenAI to build artificial intelligence skills in Thailand, launching dedicated ChatGPT training programs for more than 3,000 drivers, delivery riders, and restaurant merchants. The initiative extends the GrabAcademy program under the theme “Level Up Your Skills,” aiming to help ecosystem partners apply practical AI tools to improve business operations and generate new income opportunities.
The program introduces the regional initiative “GO Forward with AI” to Thailand following rollouts in Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Chantsuda Thananitayaudom, Managing Director of Grab Thailand, stated that the company has steadily integrated AI into platform operations. The GrabMerchant AI Assistant, introduced in 2025 to assist with business planning and data analytics, is now utilized by over 275,000 merchants. Meanwhile, the Driver AI Assistant chatbot developed alongside OpenAI has accumulated over 120,000 driver users since its September launch.
Kiran Mani, Managing Director of Asia Pacific and Japan at OpenAI, noted that providing access to technology must be coupled with skill development and user confidence to ensure sustainable adaptation. The GO Forward with AI initiative seeks to provide drivers and merchants with actionable AI competencies for managing operational budgets, scaling small businesses, and identifying new opportunities.
In-person sessions held under GrabAcademy 2026 featured two dedicated tracks. The merchant curriculum, titled “Grow Your Business with ChatGPT: Attract, Engage & Retain Your Customers,” focused on customer insight analysis, brand positioning, social media content strategies, and retention. The driver curriculum, “Grow Your Earnings with AI: Smarter Shifts, Better Service & New Opportunities,” covered shift scheduling, customer communication translation, personal finance planning, and a 30-day self-development action plan.
The initiative also incorporated supplemental modules covering personal financial planning with Siratthaya Isarabhakdi of Wealth Me Up, affiliate marketing techniques with Marut Wantanakorn of the page “Plik Cheewit Duay Suea Pha Online,” and emergency CPR fundamentals led by hospital personnel. Grab will make these courses available in digital formats through the driver application for ongoing self-paced learning.
