AMD Launches AMD Ross, an Agentic AI Assistant for Embedded System Design and Development

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has introduced an artificial intelligence assistant platform named AMD Ross, an agentic AI designed for embedded system developers. The tool aims to reduce the time required across the development workflow, from architecture design, optimization, debugging, and PCB design, to software development and final system deployment.

The software operates by receiving natural language commands to search documentation, check tool status, run commands, and execute proven engineering workflows. Its core components include Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers that connect AI agents to the company’s development tools, the AMD Knowledge Base for querying user and product guides, and Agent skills, which are Markdown files capturing best practices for common design tasks. The platform also provides ready-to-run design examples. Users have the flexibility to utilize their preferred large language models and integrated development environments, such as VS Code, Cursor, and Devin.

Real-world application testing showed that the system could reduce algorithm optimization time from 2 days to just 2 hours while utilizing 35 percent fewer logic resources compared to expert human coding. Salil Raje, senior vice president and general manager of AMD Embedded, noted that embedded development is becoming increasingly complex as teams work across hardware, software, and AI domains. This tool integrates knowledge and tools to accelerate the product innovation lifecycle.

Developers can access AMD Ross starting today through the company’s official website. The company plans to roll out additional capabilities and workflow tools on a monthly cadence.
